CaroMont Regional Medical Center Breaks Ground On Freestanding Emergency Department In Mount Holly

CaroMont Health held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new state-of-the-art, freestanding emergency facility in Mt. Holly, NC. The $24 million project is expected to address the growing emergency care needs of more than 20,000 residents in northeast Gaston County and northwest Charlotte.

“Once again, we are able to build, expand and grow in our own backyard with our community encouraging us,” said Doug Luckett, Interim CEO. “We are delighted to be able to offer this level of service to these residents.”

This portion of the county is rapidly growing, and the goal of the new facility is to offer more convenient access to emergency care services for its citizens. The facility projects an estimated 12,000 visits each year. The main Emergency Department at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, the fourth largest emergency department in the state, treats more than 100,000 patients every year.

The 38,000 square foot facility was uniquely designed using an innovative “no wait” model for patient care delivery. Upon entering, patients are immediately taken back for triage and initial assessment into one of the six, Rapid Medical Evaluation (RME) rooms where they are seen by a physician/nurse team. The Emergency Care Center has 12 exam rooms and two resuscitation/trauma rooms. Also included is a diagnostic imaging suite (CT, X-Ray, Ultrasound) and laboratory. Support services, mechanical and electrical rooms, and staff entry are located on the lower level.

The building is designed to harmonize with the architectural character of Mt. Holly, and is reminiscent of the historical mill buildings of the area, utilizing brick, metal and glass on the exterior.

“This project could not have gotten to this point without the support from the City of Mount Holly,” said Luckett. “The aesthetic standards of the facility will fit in very well with the current architecture, and we believe the center will encourage economic development and provide new business prospects a peace of mind in moving here.”

The facility will be staffed with ten Board Certified Physicians and will create nearly 59 new positions to include Registered Nurse, technician, clerical, lab technologist, phlebotomist, radiology technologist, guest services administrator, customer service and registration.

CaroMont Regional Medical Center—Mt. Holly is slated to open in Spring 2015.
