HIPAA
HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
- Under the HIPAA privacy regulations, patients must be informed about how
their personal health information will be used and given the opportunity
to object to or restrict the use or release of their information.
- CaroMont Health may use and disclose personal health information without
a patient’s consent for purposes of treatment, payment and healthcare
operation.
- Unless a patient objects, the following information may be placed in the
CaroMont Health HIPAA Patient Directory- the patient’s name, room
number or location in the hospital, and the patient’s religious
affiliation (released only to clergy of the same religious affiliation).
