Men's Health Matters: Three Things You Can Do Today

06-01-2022

June is Men's Health Month! According to recent studies, only 40% of men seek treatment when they worry something is wrong with their health. And while good health habits can feel daunting at first, all men can benefit from focusing on these three key areas of wellness:

Exercise
According to the Centers for Disease Control, approximately 450,000 men die from cardiovascular disease every year. Regular physical activity — about 150 minutes a week — can improve your heart health. But also, recent studies have shown that inactive men are 60% more likely to suffer from depression. Taking the time to exercise means you'll feel better, both physically and mentally.

Eat Better
In addition to exercise, making an effort to eat better will improve your health. Include more fruits and vegetables, less processed food and meats in your diet. It's no secret that what we choose to put into our bodies has a direct effect on how we feel. So if you aren't feeling as energetic as you used to, or are more tired than usual, making healthier food choices can make a big difference.

Get Regular Health Screenings
Did you know prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death for men? Did you also know that if detected early, prostate cancer is easily treated. Regular visits with a primary care physician means a health professional understands your personal goals and risk factors. Additionally, your provider can recommended screenings and services that will ensure any issues are detected and treated early.
