Heart Healthy Snacks for Your Busy Life

Eating healthy often takes planning, commitment and time. But some healthier options are simple to prepare and grab when your schedule is full and time is limited. Read some of our favorite ideas for heart-healthy snacks below:

Cheese, Nuts and Dried Fruit
Recent studies suggest a moderate amount of dairy fat can be good for your heart. Be sure not to overindulge and pair cheese cubes or slices with dried fruit and nuts. The combination is quick to prepare and easy to eat on the go.

Edamame
Did you know edamame is rich in healthy fiber and protein? For convenience, this snack often comes in individual frozen packs that go in your microwave. Top with lemon juice for a tasty twist.

Hummus
Hummus is a great source of “good fats,” which in moderate amounts can improve cholesterol and help lower your risk for heart disease. Pair with sliced veggies like carrots and bell peppers for an easy, delicious snack.

Oranges
If you have a sweet tooth, pass on the cookies and reach for an orange. With a high amount of potassium, oranges make a great peel and eat snack.

Nut Butters
High in protein, fiber and heart-healthy fats, nut butters are a great snacking option when you don’t have a lot of time. Spread some on whole-grain toast or use sliced apples as a dipper.
