Gaston Hospice has been named a 2017 Hospice Honors Elite program by Deyta
Analytics, a data-gathering company–and a division of
HEALTHCAREfirst—that partners with thousands of home health and hospice providers
across the United States. Hospice Honors is a prestigious program that
recognizes hospices providing the highest level of quality as measured
from the caregiver’s point of view.
“Hospice Honors is a landmark compilation of hospices that provide
the best patient and caregiver experiences,” said J. Kevin Porter
of HEALTHCAREfirst. “I am extremely proud of Gaston Hospice for achieving this highest
of honors and I congratulate them on their success.”
Out of the 357 hospices recognized nationally by
HEALTHCAREfirst, 74 received Hospice Honors Elite. Gaston Hospice ranks 1 of 74 hospices
in the country and 1 of 10 in North Carolina to exceed national benchmarks
in “excellent” (the highest score to receive) in 100 percent
of the categories this year. This aggregate patient satisfaction score
for the one-year period is 90.9 percent “excellent” compared
to 84.4 percent nationally and 88.9 percent in North Carolina.
“We are honored to have earned Hospice Honors Elite status,”
said Richard Lahm, Executive Director of Gaston Hospice. “We pride
ourselves on providing the best end-of-life care to every patient we encounter.
Our focus is always on the patient and their family, and that focus requires
that we hold ourselves to the highest standards of care and compassion.”
Award criteria were based on Hospice Consumer Assessment of Healthcare
Providers and Systems (CAHPS) survey results, which is a survey developed
and required by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid to evaluate experiences
of care. Hospice Honors recipients include those hospices scoring above
the Deyta Analytics National Performance Score on 20 of the evaluated
questions. Deyta Analytics holds a special recognition, Hospice Honors
Elite, to honor hospices scoring above the Deyta Analytics National Performance
Score on all 24 of the evaluated questions.
“Being recognized as one of the top hospice organizations in the
state is a very good thing for patients in our community,” said
Lahm. “I’m extremely proud of the care and comfort we provide.”
