Over the weekend, CaroMont Health hosted the third annual CaroMont Community
Challenge in partnership with the Gastonia East Rotary and Gaston County
Schools. Marked with blue skies and comfortable temperatures, the 5k and
1-mile walk and festival drew more than 1,000 participants this year.
The youth running program, Let Me Run, kicked off the event with 173 runners
with the 5k and fun walk following thereafter. And the fun didn’t
start and stop with the races. From boot camp warm-ups to watermelon pizzas,
the festival appealed to all walks life to encourage health and wellness
in a fun and interactive setting.
Student athletes in ninth through twelfth grades also had a chance to showcase
their athletic skills and gain helpful tips from CaroMont Athletic Directors
at the athletic combine, a combination of sport-specific conditioning
drills to determine speed, strength and skill level. Quinlin Turner from
Lincolnton High School posted 121 reps at 85 pounds on the bench press.
Hunter Huss student Xavier Swann scored an impressive 4.2 seconds in the
pro agility drill and Preston Osborne from East Gaston High School scored
4.7 seconds in the 40-yard sprint. Congratulations to all the talented
athletes who came out to compete and support the event!
A lot of hard work went into making the 2016 CaroMont Community Challenge
go off smoothly. A big thank you to participants, employees, event organizers,
Gaston County Schools, community partners and our sponsors for making
this event possible again this year. Without your support, the CaroMont
Community Challenge could not have been such a success. All proceeds from
the event will go to support Gaston County Schools Robotics Program. Sponsorship
