Second Debut of the CaroMont Community Challenge--A Great Success!
Sunny weather and lots of fun activities marked the second annual CaroMont
Community Challenge on Saturday, May 16 with more than 1,000 participants.
Runners, walkers and even strollers were welcomed onto the course at Stuart
W. Cramer High School in Belmont.
“We were impressed by the community’s response to the event
this year,” said Doug Luckett, President and CEO at CaroMont Health.
“It is encouraging to see people engaged in their health and taking
great strides to get active!”
From cardio hip-hop to the blender bike challenge, there were plenty of
wellness activities and family-friendly entertainment to go around! Celebrity
guest, Leonard Hamilton, men’s basketball coach at Florida State
University, Masters of Ceremony, Jesse Cole with the Gastonia Grizzlies
and Brian Rushing with Belmont Abbey Athletics pumped the crowd with their
light-hearted banter and show-stopping talents.
Awards were given out to the top male and female overall run finishers
in their age category. Additionally, the first, second and third place
medals were awarded to the top participants in the Let Me Run competition.
For the first time this year, students in grades 9-12 put their athletic
abilities to the test in the sports combine event. Nearly 50 athletes
were timed in various elements in football and volleyball.
