CaroMont Health Says 'Thank You' to Volunteers
CaroMont Health and the CaroMont Regional Medical Center Auxiliary recognized
more than 250 volunteers at the 63rd Annual Volunteer Luncheon on June 22, 2015. Last year, volunteers contributed
30,000 service hours, the equivalent of $676,500, at CaroMont Regional
Medical Center and nearly $60,000 scholarship dollars to individuals in
Gaston County who are pursuing a career in healthcare.
“It is an honor to be a part of today’s volunteer appreciation
luncheon,” said Doug Luckett, President and CEO at CaroMont Health.
“You are true assets to our organization and through your service
above self, you are impacting the lives of others every day at CaroMont
Regional Medical Center.”
Among those honored was John W. Waldrop, Jr. who was recognized with the
Volunteer of the Year award for 2015. Mr. Waldrop has volunteered at CaroMont
Regional in various capacities for more than 10 years and has served on
the Auxiliary Board as the first Vice President and Parliamentarian for
the past six years. His wife, Sarah Waldrop, also volunteers and served
as Auxiliary President in 2008. Mr. Waldrop is very active in his church
at Holy Trinity Lutheran in Gastonia. He and his wife have been married
nearly 51 years and have two daughters, seven grandchildren and three
great grandchildren.
“John is a dependable person who makes a point to extend a smile,
warm hug and a candy-filled hand to anyone who walks through the hospital
doors,” said Julie Young, Volunteer Coordinator at CaroMont Health.
“He has brought me, and many others, so much joy and happiness over
the years.”
Immediately following the luncheon, the volunteers held their annual meeting.
During this time, nine volunteers with more than 36 years of service were
recognized including Betty Hacker who has been volunteering at CaroMont
for 54 years. Additionally, new officers for 2015 were announced at this
time followed by a ceremonial presentation of the past-presidents pin
and gavel.

Young ended the meeting by saying, “This has been one of the most
monumental years and that’s due to you. Volunteers, you are the
face that gives someone a warm smile, offers a friendly hello and extends
a warm embrace. What you do makes the difference in people’s lives
every day.”
