CaroMont Trauma University 2013 Graduates

It’s graduation season! Yesterday, CaroMont Health awarded certificates to fourteen members of Gaston Emergency Medical Services (GEMS) to signify they successfully completed Critical Care training from CaroMont Trauma University.

“Our patients are our number one priority,” said Dr. Anthony Raspanti. “Trauma University at CaroMont is a collaboration of agencies in our community to administer the highest quality of emergency trauma care possible.”

Three years ago, CaroMont Regional Medical Center (CRMC) became a Level III State Trauma Center. During this time, CaroMont Health Trauma University was working to accomplish a higher level of service to the community by way of specialized training from a multi-disciplinary team of experts to ensure more seamless patient transition and optimal care. With one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the state, true collaboration is critical in emergency situations. When an emergency transfer of a patient is necessary, GEMS steps in.

“Because CaroMont Health has provided Trauma Care to the community, we have to step up our services to be able to accommodate this higher level of care available,” said Dylan Kirkendall, GEMS employee.

Dylan Kirkendall knows emergency care. He has been with GEMS for 14 years. This is his second year completing trauma training with CaroMont. He uses it as part of critical care recertification to familiarize himself and his colleagues with hospital locations and staff.

GEMS serves to either provide treatment to those in need of urgent medical care, with the goal of satisfactorily treating the presenting conditions, or arranging for timely removal of the patient to the next point of care. And, CaroMont’s Trauma University enhances this foundation in critical care services training in order to better serve the community.
