WALANT Technique Procedures

At the Hand Center of the Carolinas - Belmont, our providers are able to perform in-office procedures under local anesthesia without sedation. Using the wide awake, local anesthesia, no tourniquet (WALANT) technique, procedures such as nerve and tendon releases (for carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, and tendinitis/tenosynovitis), soft tissue mass excision, and foreign body removal can be safely accomplished in the office setting in select patients. In-office procedures offer several advantages to patients who prefer to eat and drink prior to their procedure and wish to drive themselves to and from their appointment. For most patients, in-office procedures are cheaper, easier, and more time efficient.
