Thigh Lift
A thigh lift is a cosmetic procedure that eliminates excess fatty tissue
and skin from the inner thigh area or the outer thigh area. The excess
skin is usually pulled tight up towards the groin area to give the patient
a firm, more toned look.
The Best Candidates
The best candidates for thigh lift surgery or thighplasty are those who
are a classic “pear shape” and carry most of their weight
in the lower half of their body. If your thighs are overly large or you
just have stubborn areas where the fat is not responding to diet or exercise,
you could benefit from a thigh lift.
Prior to Surgery
As with any cosmetic surgery, the most important step in this process is
the one on one consultation with your surgeon. During this time, you will
discuss your goals and expectation. This is the time to ask questions
and voice any concerns that you might have. Together, you and your doctor
can decide the best plan of action based on your individual needs.
The Surgery
Thigh lift surgery is an outpatient procedure and general anesthesia is
used. The surgery usually takes approximately two to three hours. There
are two types of thigh lifts, inner and outer. When the inner thigh is
treated, an incision is made either up near the groin area where the scar
is not noticeable or on the inner area of your thigh from the groin area
to just above your knee. The excess fatty tissue and skin is removed and
then the remaining skin is pulled tight to reveal a more firm, toned look.
If you are having your outer thigh treated, the procedure is usually in
conjunction with a butt lift, but not always. This type of lift shapes
the back and side of the thighs. An incision is made from the groin area
around the back of the thigh to the top of the buttocks. Liposuction may
be required to eliminate excess fat. The loose skin in the area is then
pulled tight to give the outer thigh a slim, firm appearance. The scar
may be more visible with this procedure but can be concealed with clothing.
Benefits
The benefits of a thigh lift are immediately obvious. The result is a more
attractive contour of the upper thigh area and a smooth, more toned appearance.
Finally, you will have great thighs and better self-confidence!
After Surgery
After a thigh lift you can expect some swelling, bruising and tenderness
in the area. You will immediately notice a difference in your contour;
however, it may be a few months before optimal results are noticed. A
drainage tube may be inserted into the incision area to eliminate excess
fluid and blood. This will most likely be removed within a few days. Bandages
will be applied to the incision and you may be required to wear a compression
garment for several weeks following surgery. This will help minimize swelling
and give you added support while you are healing. Your doctor will review
all post-operative instructions with you before you return home.
