Minimally Invasive Coronary Bypass Surgery
Also known as MIDCAB – or (Minimally Invasive Direct access Coronary Artery Bypass surgery) The MIDCAB procedure can be an option when only one (or occasionally two) arteries need to be bypassed. The MIDCAB procedure is a minimally invasive form of off-pump bypass. In other words, the procedure is done while your heart is beating and avoids the heart lung machine. A small (3-4 inches) incision is made in the chest to gain access to the heart. The blocked artery is then bypassed. In this way a sternotomy (splitting the breast bone) is avoided.
