Electrophysiology, Pacemaker, Defibrillators, and Cardiac Resynchronization Devices
Electrophysiologists specialize in the evaluation and treatment of heart rhythm disorders such as fast heart rates or tachycardias (i.e. atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, PSVT, VT), and inappropriately slow heart rates or bradycardias ( i.e. sick sinus syndrome). They aid in the evaluation of patients who suffer from palpitations, lightheadedness, fainting and congestive heart failure. Diagnostic services include outpatient and inpatient consultation, outpatient diagnostic testing (heart rhythm monitoring) and in patient invasive evaluation and treatment (electrophysiology studies, abalations and device implantation).

All invasive procedures are performed in a new modern electrophysiology lab at Gaston Memorial Hospital. Procedures performed include diagnostic EP study, ablation of abnormal heart rhythms (PSVT, Atrial flutter, Atrial Fibrillation and Ventricular tachycardia), implantation of pacemakers, Implantable defibrillators (ICDs) and Bi-ventricular pacemaker defibrillators (Bi-V ICD). The elctrophysiologists and the EP lab are involved in a number of national research protocols assessing the latest techniques and devices.
