Coronary Endartectomy

Some patients with coronary artery disease are turned down for surgery because they have “poor target vessels” on which to sew the bypasses. Coronary endarterectomy is a procedure used to carefully remove the atherosclerotic plaque from the artery in preparation for bypass surgery. In this way some patients once thought not to be candidates for bypass surgery become eligible.
