The CaroMont Emergency Trauma Services at Gaston Memorial Hospital stands ready to handle all manner of emergency and life threatening medical conditions. With a dedicated 14,000 square foot facility housing over 50 beds and staffed by 28 Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physicians and 200 other emergency services employees, it is one of North Carolina’s busiest. Providing service for Gastonia and surrounding counties, Emergency Services cares for more than 100,000 emergency patients per year.

Our trauma center has on call physicians from more than 30 medical specialties. Utilizing this multidisciplinary team, our current capabilities include the diagnosis, treatment and management of a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to:Trauma

  • Neurological
  • Orthopedic
  • Pediatric
  • Psychiatric

Our facility offers 45 treatment rooms, four critical care rooms, major medical care rooms and trauma rooms. A designated Fast Track area treats non-urgent patients for minor illnesses and injuries. Separate radiologic and laboratory services are available 24 hours a day. And for patients needing quick response air-transports, our helicopter pad is located just outside the ER allowing for extended care across the state and the rapid transfer of patients requiring specialized Burn Center or Level I Trauma Center Care.

CaroMont Health/Gaston Memorial Hospital is seeking Level III state Trauma Center Designation upon which it will be only one of four Level III Trauma Centers in North Carolina.

Critical Care
Critical care, also referred to as intensive care, is a branch of medicine concerned with life support or organ support for patients who are critically ill and require intensive monitoring. If you presently have a loved one in a critical care unit at Gaston Memorial Hospital, know that our well-respected and experienced critical physician team is providing the highly technical care they require. We will also involve many different primary care physicians, along with numerous types of medical and surgical specialists, depending on the needs of each patient.

Trauma Surgery
Trauma surgery involves injuries to the neck, chest, abdomen or extremities. Our specialty trained, board-certified trauma surgeons offer round-the-clock invasive treatment to critically ill and injured patients. Our multidisciplinary team of experts provides a collaborative approach to the stabilization and management of our trauma patients.

Neurotrauma
Our specialty trained neurosurgeons manage and treat a multitude of neuro-traumatic injuries 24/7. Our Neurosurgeons offer highly skilled, precise diagnostic evaluations, and treatment of traumatic neurological injuries utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.

OrthroTrauma
When a patient has a critical skeletal injury and is in need of trauma surgery, they are treated by trauma orthopedic surgeons. Our readily available, board-certified OrthroTrauma team offers round-the-clock expertise in the care and management of orthopedic emergencies as a result of traumatic injuries. OrthoTrauma care extends through the acute phase of an injury by ensuring that patients receive appropriate rehabilitation and physical therapy to facilitate the return to a healthy post-injury lifestyle.
