Gaston Memorial Hospital Makes List of Outstanding Achievement Award Recipients for 2008

Congratulations to all Commission on Cancer (CoC) Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA) recipients!  Two additional programs have been added to the list below, which brings the total number of OAA recipients to 97 as a result of surveys performed in 2008. This number represents 20 percent of the 478 programs surveyed during this period. These CoC-accredited programs earned the 2008 Outstanding Achievement Award for exceptional performance.

The award is designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients. To earn the OAA, a facility must demonstrate a Commendation level of compliance with seven standards that form the basis of the OAA criteria and are drawn from the following six areas of program activity: cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach, and quality improvement. In addition, the facility receives a compliance rating for the remaining 29 cancer program standards.

The list of 97 programs receiving the OAA includes 32 Community Hospital Cancer Programs, 43 Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Programs, 17 Teaching Hospital Cancer Programs, three Veterans Affairs Cancer Programs, one NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Programs, and one Network Cancer Program.
