Conditions we treat

Gestational Diabetes

Pregnancy increases the body’s demand for insulin. If sufficient insulin cannot be produced, blood glucose rises and diabetes may develop. Usually occurring in the last half of pregnancy, gestational diabetes affects an estimated 18 percent of pregnancies. This type of diabetes is thought to be temporary, but as many as 10 percent of women with gestational diabetes go on to develop Type 2 diabetes in the future. Expectant mothers can help prevent gestational diabetes through healthy eating and regular exercise.

Our highly-trained staff uses state-of-the-art diabetes information and resources to develop an individualized treatment plan. With the following treatment and care women with gestational diabetes can deliver healthy babies and avoid future health risks:

  • Exercise
  • Healthy eating
  • Medication
  • Blood sugar monitoring
  • Regular prenatal monitoring
  • Breast-feeding

Pre-Diabetes

Pre-diabetes is a condition that occurs when a person’s blood glucose levels are elevated, but not high enough for a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes. There are roughly 79 million Americans with pre-diabetes, putting them at increased risk for heart attack, stroke, poor healing and infections. When left untreated, pre-diabetes is likely to progress to Type 2 diabetes within 10 years.

Risk Factors

Pre-diabetes shares most of the same risk factors as Type 2 diabetes, which inlcude:

  • Family history
  • Being overweight
  • Fat stored mostly around abdomen
  • Inactive lifestyle
  • Race (African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians & Asian-American or Pacific Islander)
  • Gestational diabetes
  • 45 years of age or older
  • Inadequate sleep
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome

Our highly-trained staff uses state-of-the-art diabetes resources and information to develop individualized treatment plans. Choosing a healthy lifestyle and utilizing proper care, people with pre-diabetes can avoid developing Type 2 diabetes with:

  • Medications
  • Blood sugar monitoring
  • Healthy eating
  • Regular physical activity
  • Weight loss

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes, previously known as “juvenile diabetes,” is usually diagnosed in childhood. It results from the body’s inability to produce insulin, the hormone that unlocks the cells of the body allowing glucose (sugar) to enter and fuel them. It is estimated that five percent of Americans diagnosed with diabetes have this type of disease.

Our highly-trained staff uses state-of-the-art diabetes information and resources to develop an individualized treatment plan. With the following treatment and care, people with Type 1 diabetes can lead healthy productive lives:

  • Blood sugar monitoring
  • Healthy eating
  • Regular physical activity
  • Insulin therapy

  • Continuous glucose monitor training, both professional and personal

Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes results from insulin resistance, a condition in which the body fails to produce or properly use insulin. It is the most common form of the disease and can usually be prevented with healthy eating and an active lifestyle. While there is no cure for Type 2 diabetes, the condition is highly manageable.

Our highly-trained staff uses state-of-the-art diabetes information and resources to develop individualized treatment plans. People with Type 2 diabetes can lead healthy, productive and enjoyable lives with proper care including:
