CaroMont Regional Medical Center is in the running for the 2013 “Most
Beautiful Hospital” in America by Soliant Health, a leading specialty
healthcare staffing provider.
This is the fourth annual contest, and with a wealth of great nominations
this year, Soliant decided to bypass its routine selection process and
include not only the top 50 entries, but all entries received to be in
the running for the 2013 Most Beautiful Hospitals in the U.S. The voting
period runs through June 23. The top 20 winners will be revealed on the
following Friday, June 28. Voting takes place at
http://www.mostbeautifulhospitals.com. Please vote for your community hospital, CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
Though tough this year, competing entries represent facilities across the
United States with impressive features big and small such as local art
displays, healing gardens, educational centers, stone walls and retreat-style
accommodations; CaroMont rivals all with its own unique characteristics
The West Expansion
In 2004, CaroMont Health completed its west expansion that now houses The
Birthplace, Rotunda/Visitor Parking Deck, Education Center and Surgery Waiting.
The idea behind the Birthplace was simple: to provide the perfect environment
for families to share one of life’s most amazing experiences. It
was designed with the needs of patients and their families in mind. The
world-class birthing center reflects CaroMont’s commitment to family
centered care, while celebrating and supporting the birth of a child.
Complementing the building’s architecture and using evidence-based
principles to promote wellness and to create a feeling of comfort and
hope, the art collection invites the extended family to celebrate the
birth experience. In addition, a goal of the art program was to play a
significant role in enhancing the hospital’s wayfinding. Many major
pieces from sculptures to mobiles to paintings are positioned as wayfinding
landmarks to help patients and visitors navigate their way through hospital.
The internationally acclaimed birthing center continues to receive attention
for its family-focused design, and has been featured in
American Art Resources.
Rotunda/Visitor Parking Deck
The solution for the Birthing Center and west expansion simplified internal
circulation, created an icon for the outpatient and short-stay programs,
eased access to the cancer program, and consolidated parking in a 700-car
garage, thus providing a single-level platform. Most visitors and patients
enter the hospital through the Rotunda or lobby, more than 2,600 square
feet of magnificent open floor and top to floor windows that allow natural
light to permeate the expansion.
The Education Center
Nearly 6,500 square feet of conference and meeting room space occupies
the lower level of the west expansion. Both internal and community groups
have access to six, spacious meeting rooms right off the entrance from
the Visitor Parking Deck. The average room size is between 73,000 and
76,000 square feet, and can accommodate upwards of nearly 80 people. Each
adjoining room is divided by a partition, and can be rolled back for larger
groups. Each room is equipped with advanced audio and visual technology.
CaroMont Regional Medical Center’s aesthetic landscape earned it
an award last year. A dedicated grounds maintenance team, known for their
attention to detail and personalized services, canvases the campus every
day to keep it looking clean and pristine. Seasonal displays of plants
and flowers adorn the picturesque campus including 47 flower beds and
29 planters, of which currently contain red and pink knockout roses, begonias,
purple hearts, green elephant ears, among others.
