CaroMont Health Welcomes Fellowship-Trained Breast Surgeon from Cleveland Clinic

CaroMont Health recently welcomed Dr. Paula Lundgren to its medical staff. Dr. Lundgren is a fellowship-trained breast surgeon, and joined the healthcare system after completing her breast fellowship from Cleveland Clinic, one of the nation’s leading institutions for advanced training in breast disease. She is board certified in general surgery.

Dr. Lundgren received her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PA. She completed her internship and residency in general surgery at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA. During her last year of residency, Dr. Lundgren served as Chief Resident in the Department of Surgery.

“My father and brother are general surgeons,” Dr. Lundgren. “I knew I liked the field, and while I was not sure I wanted to specialize in breast surgery early in my career, once I got in the field, I immediately realized this was my calling.”

Dr. Lundgren says she was attracted to CaroMont Health and the cancer center because of its emphasis on quality of care and the multidisciplinary focus in treatment plan development.

“I was also impressed with the accreditations the [CaroMont Cancer] center has earned,” said Dr. Lundgren. “I truly thought that I would have to come in and help build the center, but what I saw was an excellent center, caring and professional staff, and stellar outcomes. I look forward to becoming a part of the medical team and delivering quality care to people in our community.”

“I understand that women can’t stop their lives,” said Dr. Lundgren. “They take care of their families first, and themselves second. My goal is to determine whether a patient has breast cancer then work with the patient to chart an individualized treatment plan. I realize that when I diagnose a woman with breast cancer, her first thought is ‘Who is going to take care of my family?’ I see my patients as mothers, wives, daughters, employees and church members. I feel it is my duty is to get patients into treatment and back to their roles quickly.”

Dr. Lundgren and her husband reside in Belmont, NC, with their two children. The family enjoys spending time outdoors, soccer and trips to the beach.

Dr. Lundgren is currently accepting patients at CaroMont Breast Surgical Specialists and CaroMont Cancer Center.
