U.S. News & World Report Recognizes CaroMont Health for High-Performing Specialties

Gastonia, NC – July 21, 2011- CaroMont Health has once again been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top providers of health care in the Charlotte area.

CaroMont’s CaroMont Regional Medical Center was ranked among U.S. News & World Report’s 2011-12 Best Hospitals. The latest rankings showcase 720 hospitals out of about 5,000 nationwide. Each is rated among the country’s top hospitals in at least one medical specialty and/or ranked among the best hospitals in its metro area.

CaroMont Regional Medical Center was rated as high-performing in three specialties: Gastroenterology, Nephrology and Pulmonology.

“At CaroMont Health, we are focused on delivering exceptional health care, promoting individual wellness and creating vibrant communities,” said acting CEO Doug Luckett. “Having US News & World Report rank CaroMont Regional Medical Center as a top hospital in three specialty areas is evidence that we are succeeding in our mission and vision.”

Metro area rankings were published for the first time by U.S. News earlier this year and have been updated to coincide with the national rankings, which have been published annually by U.S. News for the past 22 years. The rankings were publicly released today and will also be featured in the U.S. News Best Hospitals guidebook, which will go on sale Aug. 30.

The rankings cover 16 medical specialties and all 94 metro areas that have at least 500,000 residents and at least one hospital that performed well enough to be ranked.

“These hospitals are fully capable of giving most patients first-rate care, even if they have serious conditions or need demanding procedures,” said Avery Comarow, U.S. News Health Rankings Editor. “Hospitals like these are ones you or those close to you should consider when the stakes are high.”
