CaroMont Health Welcomes Biggest Loser, Ali Vincent

Gastonia, NC – November 20, 2010 – Today, CaroMont Health welcomed Ali Vincent, the first female winner of the popular reality TV show, The Biggest Loser. More than 200 CaroMont Health employees registered to attend. Vincent shared her inspirational weight loss story and her mother, Biggest Loserteammate, Bette-Sue, also spoke to the crowd about her lifelong battle with obesity. The Vincents’ visit kicks off a system-wide program called Maintain, Don’t Gain, designed to help CaroMont employees stay fit and healthy during the upcoming holiday season.

Ali, 32 years old, was once a fit, internationally ranked synchronized swimmer. However, her ever- growing weight, which topped out at 234 lbs. when she began The Biggest Loser show, stopped her from reaching her professional goals. After being voted off of The Biggest Loser early on, Ali continued her diet and exercise regimen at home. When she returned for the show’s finale, she had lost 112 lbs. and was named the first female Biggest Loser. Today, Ali is a motivational speaker spreading her message on the importance of heart health and fitness.

“CaroMont Health is a strong advocate for health and wellness in this community,” said Valinda Rutledge, President and CEO of CaroMont Health. “We have all been inspired and motivated by Ali and Bette-Sue Vincent’s story of making major lifestyle changes to improve their health. It is our hope that their message will inspire and motivate our team as we kick-off our holiday health and wellness program.”

The Maintain, Don’t Gain program is a free, seven-week course with a focus on nutrition, exercise and stress management. Participants are encouraged to exercise 150 minutes per week, eat 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables each day and manage stress with yoga or other mind-body activity. The goal of the program is to help participants get through the holiday season without gaining weight and to feel more energized and healthy into 2011. The program is open to all CaroMont employees, their spouses, volunteers and hospital chaplains.
