Why did you decide to pursue a career in the medical field?
I have always been interested in medicine, even at a young age I would assemble model kits of the human body and was fascinated by the inner workings of the various organ systems. I always did well in the biologic and chemical sciences, so it was the natural extension of an early fascination with science and the human body.

Why did you choose this specialty?
The specialty of Gastroenterology was always interesting to me. At one time I considered Emergency Medicine and Surgery as career paths, but Gastroenterology and Hepatology afforded some aspects of both. I also like this branch of medicine because it encompasses multiple organ systems, including the liver. As with most choices in medicine, I also had a few sterling mentors in the field that were very enthusiastic and loved what they were doing. It's a specialty that includes both cognitive and procedural approaches to patient care, which appeals to me.

What is your medical philosophy?
My philosophy centers on the delivery of evidence based, compassionate and quality care to patients who are suffering from diseases related to my field of practice.

What are the conditions you diagnose and treat?
We treat diagnose and treat a variety of conditions related to the gastrointestinal tract and liver, including such problems as peptic ulcer disease, heartburn, bowel irregularity and all forms of liver disease including hepatitis. Of course, one of the major benefits we provide to the public is expertise in screening for colorectal cancer, which does indeed save lives.

What are your hobbies/interests?
My hobbies and interests range from reading, hiking and traveling, to Japanese Martial Arts. Finding the free time to do any or all of these things can be a very big challenge!
